INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study is to describe the need to achieve recovery for people with schizophrenia in the community based on the perspective of service users and families. METHODS: This study is a descriptive qualitative research. Participants consisted of 3 ODS groups and 3 family groups, each group consisted of 4 to 8 people, with a total of 15 ODS participants and 16 families. Participant sampling technique used in qualitative design was purposive sampling. Data collection is conducted through Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Data analysis technique used by researchers was framework analysis. RESULTS: The study found two main themes: the perception of recovery and the need to achieve recovery. Perceptions of recovery include criteria for recovery, optimism in achieving recovery, and the benefits of recovery. The needs to achieve recovery include the psychological needs of people with schizophrenia, family support, community support, and the support of health workers. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: There are still people with schizophrenia and their families who do not yet have the optimism to recover. It is necessary to develop interventions that take into account the perceptions and needs of achieving recovery based on the perspective of the people with schizophrenia and their family.
